Euredia is born: the new European voice for the refrigerant supply chain

Euredia has officially been launched, the new European association bringing together refrigerant distributors and companies specialising in refrigerant reclamation, with the aim of supporting the implementation of European Union climate legislation and contributing to a more transparent and sustainable market.

The European Refrigerant Distributors and Reclaimers Association (Euredia) is the first pan-European organisation dedicated exclusively to companies operating in refrigerant distribution and recovery. The association was created to represent a strategic segment of the HVAC&R supply chain, committed to ensuring the proper management of refrigerant gases throughout their entire lifecycle.

According to Euredia, ensuring that refrigerants are recovered, treated and reused in compliance with regulations is a key factor in achieving Europe’s climate targets, while also combating issues such as illegal trade and market distortions.

An association born at a crucial moment for the sector

The creation of Euredia comes at a time of major transformation for the European refrigerant market. The entry into force of the new F-Gas Regulation is accelerating the phase-down of HFCs and the transition towards lower-impact solutions.

At the same time, the sector continues to face several challenges, including illegal refrigerant trade, inconsistent enforcement of regulations across Member States and the need for greater harmonisation of controls throughout the supply chain.

“Distributors and reclamation operators are where European refrigerant policies become operational reality,” said Hans Craen, President of Euredia. “Our companies work every day on regulatory compliance, recovery and the responsible management of refrigerants across European borders and throughout their entire lifecycle. Euredia was established to bring this practical expertise directly into discussions with policymakers.”

Three strategic priorities: compliance, market integrity and circularity

Euredia has identified three main areas of focus for its activities:

• Strengthening compliance with European regulations, promoting the consistent implementation of refrigerant rules across all Member States;
• Protecting market integrity, by combating illegal trade and ensuring fair competitive conditions for operators that comply with current legislation;
• Developing the circular economy, by encouraging effective refrigerant recovery, recycling, reclamation and reuse.

One of the association’s key priorities will be tackling illegal refrigerant trafficking, a phenomenon that continues to threaten both European environmental objectives and the competitiveness of legitimate businesses.

To address this challenge, Euredia supports stronger enforcement capabilities, closer cooperation between customs authorities and market surveillance bodies, improved traceability systems and enhanced coordination between Member States and European institutions.

Refrigerant reclamation at the heart of the sustainable transition

 Another central priority for the association is the development of refrigerant reclamation: the process through which recovered refrigerants are restored to a quality equivalent to that of newly produced products.

This activity helps reuce emissions associated with the production of new refrigerants, limits the consumption of raw materials and supports a more circular approach to refrigerant management.

“Europe has one of the most advanced refrigerant regulatory frameworks in the world, but achieving its objectives will depend on the ability to implement and enforce these rules consistently and effectively,” stated Carmine Marotta, Vice President of Euredia. “Our mission is to help build a transparent, compliant and circular refrigerant market that combines environmental protection with fair competition.”

Euredia has been established with the support of ten founding companies operating across nine European countries: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden.

The founding members include A-Gas, Beijer Ref, Climalife, Gazechim, General Gas, GRIT, Kontes, Nippon Sanso, Tazzetti and Westfalen.

The association will work with European institutions, national authorities and industry stakeholders to support the implementation of EU climate and refrigerant policies, with particular focus on the transition towards gases with a lower Global Warming Potential (GWP).

Euredia members to take part in REFRIGERA 2027

 The new association will also be represented at international industry events. Six of Euredia’s founding companies – A-Gas, Beijer Ref, Gazechim (which includes Refrigerant Italia), General Gas, Nippon Sanso and Tazzetti – will participate in REFRIGERA 2027, the international event dedicated to industrial, commercial, logistics, food freezing and cryogenic refrigeration, scheduled to take place at BolognaFiere from 10 to 12 November 2027.

The event will provide an opportunity for discussion and exchange within a sector facing one of the most significant transformations in its history: the move towards increasingly efficient, traceable and sustainable refrigerant management.
